Former NYT Journalist Appointed to Head CBS After Paramount Deal

The media conglomerate has appointed ex- NYT opinion writer Bari Weiss to lead CBS News, representing the latest step by current leadership to reshape workings of a prominent American news networks.

The company is furthermore purchasing The Free Press, the online publication Weiss started after her acrimonious exit from the New York Times, in a arrangement estimated to be worth $150 million.

Ms Weiss, who has challenged television news for becoming too partisan, said she was eager to influence CBS, which was purchased by David Ellison in recent months as part of a broader merger with Paramount.
